AI in the Context of DFV

As technology advances, AI tools are becoming essential in daily life, improving efficiency and resource access. However, they also raise trust and safety concerns, particularly for survivors of domestic violence. This one-hour training will discuss how AI can offer misleading but seemingly empathetic advice. Key topics include common myths, benefits, privacy concerns, environmental impact, and safe usage practices for survivors and frontline workers, highlighting how these tools store and share information.

CCTV and IoT

CCTV and the Internet of Things (IoT) are becoming increasingly available and accessible, from doorbell cameras to connected washing machines and trackable drink bottles! As connectivity grows, perpetrators commonly target this technology because it is accessible and centralised. This information may reveal the survivor’s location and personal activities, enabling monitoring and surveillance within the home or remotely. Depending on the product, there are different features and access points that can be exploited, raising significant privacy and safety concerns.

Location, Location, Location

This seventy-five minute webinar covers how victim-survivors may be located, monitored, and surveilled through technology by abusers. It explores the more commonly used tactics, including tracking through purpose-built trackers, inbuilt applications (apps) like ‘Find My’, or through viewing account data, through to the more complex tactics such as accessing the backend of accounts and apps, extracting geolocation data, or using malware such as stalkerware or spyware. Attendees will learn how this type of abuse can occur, how to identify the technology being used, where to look for evidence, what to do about it, and how to protect against the likelihood of it occurring.

This one-hour training covers the levels of connectivity in newer cars, the data collected and shared, privacy concerns, and ways survivors in Australia are vulnerable to being tracked through their cars.
