You’re invited to participate in the second national survey of how technology is being used in domestic and family violence. The first national survey was conducted in 2015 (funded by ACCAN and led by DVRCV with WESNET & Women’s Legal NSW), with over 540 participants throughout Australia. The findings of that research have been used extensively, including informing training for the sector, shaping policy and in advocacy for victim-survivors.
In this second survey, funded by Telstra, we are interested yet again in the knowledge and experience of domestic and family violence practitioners and the ways they see perpetrators using technology in domestic and family violence. We are also interested to see what changes have occurred since our last survey, and to track these new developments so that we can provide the most up-to-date training and resources for the domestic and family violence sector.
Who is the survey for?
This survey is for workers in Australia from organisations whose focus is supporting women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence, including legal services, refuges, sexual assault services, housing, health, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander services, multicultural services.
How long will the survey take and what sort of questions will I be asked?
The survey should take 15-20 minutes to fill in. We understand the time constraints of your work and have tried to ensure the survey will not take too much of your time. The survey asks questions about what kinds of technology perpetrators are using, how they are using this technology and the impacts of this on victim-survivors. We have also included questions about how the use of technology is responded to through the legal system and what resources would best assist you in your work.
Why should I take this survey?
WESNET is an organisation dedicated to providing practical support to the domestic and family violence sector. Your responses to this survey will ensure that the resources we create will be informed directly by your experiences supporting women and children.
This project has been approved by Curtin University Human Research Ethics Committee (HRE2020-0178).

Your contribution will be anonymous. If you do not believe you are the most appropriate person in your organisation to complete the survey, we ask that you pass it along to the person or people who are, so that your organisation’s voice is still represented in the survey. Please feel free to distribute the survey to multiple people in your organisation, and any other contacts you have who may be interested in sharing their views on this issue.
